Description of Building Department Duties and Objectives:
The Iosco County Building and Safety Inspection department’s mission is to provide public safety regarding all construction and development projects within our community. Our main objective is to assure building owners that their structure is sound and safe while assuring all building users that their safety and welfare are protected by enforcement of the State of Michigan’s Building, Electrical, Mechanical and Plumbing Codes. The Building Department also enforces the Part 91, Soil Erosion and Sedimentation Control of the Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Act 1994 PA 451, as amended. All of our inspectors apply consistent and uniform building standards throughout the County. If located in Plainfield Twp., Plainfield Township is the only jurisdiction we do not cover. Contact Plainfield Township Hall 989-728-2811.
The Iosco County Building and Safety Inspection Department maintains The Uniform Street and Road Numbering Ordinance. This ordinance will enable emergency service agencies and other public and private entities, to more rapidly identify and locate properties within the county.
Permits are required for all new construction for commercial and residential projects. Included in these requirements are roofing, siding, swimming pools (above ground/in-ground), decks, carports, sheds over 200sq.ft.
Please refer to our Building Department Forms (Below) on this website for permit applications and requirements for specific permits or contact the Building Department for further information.
PLEASE BE ADVISED THAT THE IOSCO COUNTY BUILDING AND SAFETY INSPECTION DEPARTMENT HAS REVISED PERMITS AND PERMIT FEES EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2020. LISTED BELOW ARE THE UPDATED APPLICATION FORMS WITH THE CURRENT FEE CHANGES. THE BUILDING DEPARTMENT WILL ALSO NO LONGER REQUIRE ROOFING AND SIDING PERMITS FOR THE IOSCO COUNTY BUILDING DEPARTMENT’S JURISDICTION.
